Under the consortium leadership of Logata Digital Solutions GmbH and promoted by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, and working in collaboration with partners from the business sector and from the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics, this project has taken a pioneering step forward in the area of Industry 4.0, in which the real and the virtual world are merging to form an Internet of Things.
SMART FACE is first and foremost about the automation of the planning process. The focus of the project is centred on decentralised, autonomous material flow units. These units are referred to as Cyber Physical Systems, or CPS for short. The term incorporates, for instance, mobile robots that will in future autonomously transport assembly components within a production network from one workstation to the next. In addition to various partners from the fields of automotive manufacture, automation, IT and research, Logata Digital Solutions GmbH played a role in ensuring that the implementation of this project has been possible, among various other contributions.
Although this is still a research project and SMART FACE is not yet in use within a company, it does, however, show how industry can develop in future. This is also0 the view of journalist Hans Arthur Marsiske, who writes the following on heise.de: “At the presentation of the “Smart Face” research project, the robots actually work together, whereas at other, larger exhibition stands they often move independently of one another.” Logata Digital Solutions GmbH has also played a vital role in this.
